Light Period - What does it mean?

Light menstrual bleeding is a type of irregular period.

In general a healthy period should last 3-5 days, may start off light, get a bit heavier for a couple of days and then taper off again.

If there is light, bright red menstruation, this may also be a sign of a lack of circulation to the uterus (called a ‘cold uterus’ in Traditional Chinese Medicine). This could also be due to:
- hormonal imbalance (not enough hormones being produced)
- nutritional deficiencies
- being underweight even
