United Nations - Ban Ki-moon, the eighth Secretary-General of the United Nations, ends his second five-year term at the helm of the world body on 31 December 2016. In his final interview with UN News, Mr. Ban reflects on his decade-long stint, during which he played a key role in helping the international community confront the globe’s toughest challenges. Hailing from the Republic of Korea, Mr. Ban's first term began in 2007, and he was unanimously re-appointed by the UN General Assembly to a second term in 2012.
