By 2025, 2% of fuel offered at EU airports must be sustainable aviation fuels (SAF), Rising to 6% by 2030, 20% by 2035 and 70% of by 2050. Sustainable aviation fuels come in two types, biofuels and synthetic fuels. Biofuels emit much less carbon than typical jet fuel. Synthetic fuels are made from captured CO2 and hydrogen and so are carbon neutral. The EU says 1.2% of SAF must be synthetic by 2030 and 35% by 2050. These measures alone could cut EU aviation emissions by two-thirds by 2050. #aviation #eu #sustainabletransport #biofuels #decarbonising
