He said it was a very scary experience for him as a child, and that the more scared he was the louder he found the voices would become until he came to accept his gift for what it was.
He refers to his show at Foxwoods as being more of a “Family Reunion” than a show, because he plans to connect as many of the people in attendance with their loved ones as he can. He sees himself as “Heaven’s Telephone Operator” and in his shows he usually finds himself running up and down the aisles trying to connect as many people as possible and passing along important messages from the Other Side. He does his best to reach as many people as he can, but he also notes that it takes time for lost loved ones to settle, and the recently departed often can’t communicate unless they have a special message for the people left behind.
Matt finishes the show by doing a reading for the host Amanda, whom he connects with her Grandfather- a military man she was close to as a child. They reminisce about her breakfasts with him, and how he used to slip her loose change whenever he could to make her happy. They also discuss his passing, and his reluctance to take proper care of himself that resulted in his eventual heart attack. It’s clear that her grandfather is encouraging her to take better care of herself, and to know how important she was and is to him and while they run out of time to chat, it’s still a happy moment.
