Friday 4 May 2018 - Brisbane, QLD, Australia
Monday 7 May 2018 - Perth, WA, Australia
Are you interested in learning about why some kids have trouble learning to read, spell and write?
Are you a parent, teacher or professional who sees these kids struggle every day?
Would you like to learn evidence-based strategies to help them?
If so, this seminar is for you.
Come and spend a day with us - we have 3 awesome presenters lined up for you:
Our first presenter is Dr Martha Burns - Marty is the expert on how the brain works, especially when it comes to learning to read, write and spell. And, she's really good at breaking down complex concepts so it's easy to understand, relevant and functional. Dr Burns is going to explain the latest brain research and what happens in the brain when we learn to read, spell and write, and why some students have trouble
Our second presenter is Tina Pickford. Tina has tutored lots of kids with Dyslexia and other reading problems. She talks to parents every day who are buried in reports they don't understand and are confused about where to start with their child's reading problems. Some of them have been told their child won't graduate high school or has no chance of improving. You will learn how to identify a student who is struggling, how those students should be taught and how to help them in the classroom and at home. After that we'll have some lunch and then we'll spend an hour workshopping - actually practicing how to teach students phonics and spelling rules.
Our third presenter is Meagan Ross - an educator from California. She's vibrant, she's energetic and she is so passionate about helping kids who struggle to read. She's going to talk to us about what reading fluency is and why it's so important for building the bridge between reading words and reading comprehension, that is, understanding what we've read.
Seminars like this are rarely available in Australia and it's important to register soon as it's only happening once and only in two locations - on Friday May 4th in Brisbane and on Monday May 7th in Perth. We'd love to be able to invite you all for free but because we need to hire a venue, organise morning tea and lunch and provide you with presentation notes, there is a registration fee - but we've kept it as low as possible so everyone can have a chance to attend.
