Resolution calling for investigation of violations in Palestine Adopted

The draft resolution called “Violations of international law in the context of large-scale civilian protests in the Occupied-Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem” has been adopted by the Human Rights Council with 29 votes in favor, 2 against and 14 abstentions.
The resolution condemns the disproportionate and indiscriminate use of force by the Israeli occupying forces against Palestinian civilians and decides to urgently dispatch an independent, international commission of inquiry to investigate all alleged violations and abuses of international humanitarian law and international human rights law in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, particularly in the occupied Gaza Strip, in the context of the military assaults on the large-scale civilian protests that began on 30 March 2018.
The special session was convened after violence reached a peak last Monday, 14 May, when 43 demonstrators were killed by Israeli forces and some of the 1,360 demonstrators injured with live ammunition that day succumb to their wounds.
1,9 million people live in Gaza behind fences and have suffered progressively more restrictions and greater poverty. After 11 years of blockade by Israel, they have little hope of employment, and their infrastructure is crumbling.
