This is my nomination for the C-SPAN Student Cam 2021 competition. The theme of this year’s contest is "Explore the issue you most want the president and new Congress to address in 2021." I chose to cover making mental health treatment more affordable as well as the shortage of counselors.

This film addresses the mental health crisis currently going on in America as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. With mental health on the rise since the pandemic, more and more people seek treatment, but when there aren't enough counselors to take in all these new clients, people are unable to get treatment and their mental health continues to drain. Through interviews with multiple mental health organizations, counselors, and even a client who is only limited to 5 counseling sessions a year at her college, I look deep into the mental health crisis in America.

This film was made by me, Emma Whelan, a junior at Jenks High School in Oklahoma who is in the Advanced Filmmaking class and is my 2nd entry in the C-SPAN Student Cam Competitions.

The winners of the competition will be announced on Wednesday, March 10, 2021.
