The Simien-Mountains are located in the north-west of Ethiopia.
A bizarre mountain world with unbelievable gorges and huge table mountains – known to some as the “Roof of Africa”
A hike at an altitude of 3,500 to 4,000 along cliff edges takes us to a forest on the steep slopes of the Simien Mountains. The air is thin in this enchanted fairy-tale world of breathtaking views.
The Flora, such as the rare Lobewia Gigante changes with altitude as the habitat of the endangered Dschelada-Baboons unfolds.
800 metre high waterfalls are passed en route to the agricutural village of Ghitch, also home to great thick beaked ravens which nest in the cliffs.
Formed about 75 million years ago, this dome of magma basalt went through glacier erosion which eventually evolved into the wooded gorges and steep cliffs of the present times.
The trail leads through the Geech Plateau and eventually to the ceremonious coffee and hospitality of the poor but content locals who live in their own paradise.
