Hello Everyone,
My name is Jessica and today I'm going to talk about a subject of interest for a lot of the expecting mothers. Getting a good night's sleep is essential, especially when you have a little one growing inside you. Is there a recommended sleep position during pregnancy? Let's find out.
As your body is changing and your bump becomes more prominent, you might be tempted to sleep on your back. Well, you should know that such sleep positions are not encouraged - numerous studies have confirmed that sleeping on your back reduces the blood flow to the uterus, having a negative impact on the development of the baby.
Back sleeping can influence your health as well, increasing the risk for muscle cramps and hemorrhoids. It can also cause a drop in blood pressure, due to the vena cava being compressed by the growing uterus. For this reason, you might want to refrain from sitting or standing up all of a sudden. Last, but not least, back sleeping can increase the risk for sleep apnea (especially as you are gaining weight).
How to sleep during pregnancy? According to the experts in the field, the most recommended position in on your side. You can place a pillow between your legs, in order to support your back and bend your knees slightly for an added level of comfort. If you suffer from heartburn, you can sleep on several pillows and, thus, rest comfortably.
By choosing a sleep position that is comfortable and healthy at the same time, you will wake up rested and prepared for the day ahead of you. Moreover, a proper sleep position is beneficial for your growing baby. If you are interested in more information on health during pregnancy, do not hesitate to visit ConsumerHealthDigest.com.
