This was filmed in the town of Aluthgama south of Colombo on the way to Galle. This busy fruit market is a weekly Monday event. Amazing selection of fruit vegetables and lots of dried fish. We loved it. We also filmed Fish curry, chicken curry, coconut sambal, onion symbol, luna mires, fried rice, coconut roti, pork fry, hoppers, string hoppers, wattage kale pol - pumpkin curry, squid curry, okra curry bandakka, pineapple curry, mango curry, purawapu, prawn curry, wombat aubergine salad, fish cutlets, varar cabbage and leeks and a couple more. We will get them uploaded as fast as we can. Before we get into the food side of things, let us mention the beautiful country and people of Sri Lanka. Lush green plants and trees everywhere you go, stunning hills and valleys and some of the friendlies people we have ever met. If you have not been before put this place on your bucket list. So the food, well at first one would think it is Indian and that is that. Well there is a little of the south Indian in the mix but that is as far as it goes. Sri Lanka for sure has its own cuisine and culture. Short Eats - This is the general term used for any type of snack food. These shops and stalls are dotted just about all over the place. The funny thing is that many of them are called Hotels. Strange for westerners to understand and a Hotel is usually referred to as a guest house. A tip would be to ask for Guesthouse if you are looking for a bed for the night and not some snack type of street food. Short eats include, samosa, hoppers, roti and kuttu, they are all explained in more detail below. So they are fast cheap tasty and of course very popular. Not in any particular order but we would say coconut is pretty high up on the list, followed Pandam leaves, Curry leaves, Garlic, Ginger, Chilli (both fresh and powdered), Cinnamon, Turmeric, Pepper, Lentils, dried fish - As part of the HOW TO COOK GREAT NETWORK -
