The coronavirus pandemic has exposed the deep inequities that disproportionately burden the most vulnerable and marginalized communities. Climate change impacts hold similar disparities and, if left unmitigated, will not only cause irreversible damage, but also exacerbate disparities and compound existing problems, including poverty, food insecurity, inequality and health risks. How can we sustainably manage the ocean to protect vital natural systems while ensuring marginalized and vulnerable communities will benefit from ocean health?
