Mr. Paul Ladd, an expert on post-2015 issues, explains that our understanding of poverty has changed. Poverty can express itself in many forms – lack of access to health care, education, basic services and political or economic inclusion. The Millennium Development Goal of halving extreme poverty was achieved before the 2015 deadline. However, while there have been success stories, gaps still exist. We need to look at more contemporary challenges to address poverty eradication such as impacts of climate change, the damage to our environment, economic and financial crises and food and oil shocks.
