This is the first discussion in a series that will explore critical issues in contemporary practice. In particular, the series will look at how practices specialize and collaborate to solve specific practical problems and at how complicated projects can lead a firm to define their niche and hone their expertise. Curtain walls, acoustics, modeling, healthcare, and other themes will be the topic of lectures followed by discussion and question-and-answer sessions.

Architects William Rawn and Samuel Lasky (M.Arch. '97) principals at William Rawn Associates, Architects, will discuss their work on the curtain wall at the Tata Building, currently under construction at the Harvard Business School. They will be joined by Tom Mayo, Chief Estimator/Director of Pre-construction Services for Karas and Karas Glass Company, Inc., collaborator on the Tata Building project. The many celebrated projects by William Rawn Associates cross a spectrum from housing and hospitality to research and the performing arts. Among their institutional works are projects for the Harvard Business School, Berklee College of Music, and the extension to the Cambridge Public Library. Examples of Karas and Karas's projects include The ICA Boston, MIT Stata Center, MIT Brain and Cognitive Research Center, the Genzyme Headquarters, and the Allston Science Project.
