This artificial leaf produces hydrogen from thin air and sunlight. It was invented by scientists at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology who say they were inspired by natural photosynthesis. Hydrogen can be used as a clean fuel, or for renewable energy storage. The ’leaf’ is made from a base layer of glass fibres coated in a semiconductor.
