Researchers have uncovered six mechanisms that could be reinforced to prevent steel truss bridges collapsing.
Steel truss bridges are under increasing pressure due to their age and extreme weather caused by climate change, but new research could show how to keep them standing. A group of researchers tested a scale model of one such bridge to destruction and found that it could resist collapse through six surprising mechanisms. They hope that this will allow engineers to reinforce these bridges in future to prevent their collapse.
