On April 4, Louis Newman, John M. and Elizabeth W. Musser Professor of Religious Studies and director of Judaic Studies at Carleton College, delivered this year's Albert and Vera List Fund for Jewish Studies Lecture at the Center for the Study of World Religions at HDS.

Forgiveness is one of life's most persistent and perplexing moral questions. What is the appropriate ethical response to someone who treats us unethically? Focusing on interpersonal relationships, Newman's talk explored the moral problems of offering forgiveness—and also of failing to offer it—from the perspective of classical and contemporary Jewish thinkers.
