VACCINE STATUS

The J&J vax has received EUA approval. This vaccine consists of a single jab and reaches peak efficacy within 28 days.

The Pfizer and Moderna vaccination process consists of two jabs, 3-4 weeks apart, followed by a two week waiting period -- a total of 5-6 weeks from jab #1.

Many areas are approaching the end of Phase 1, which includes age 65+, nursing homes, health professionals, educators, others at high risk, and first responders.

Some jurisdictions have expanded the eligibility pool and moved the 2nd jab out to a six week interval, extending the entire process to 2 mos.

The meaning of "90% effective" : if half of a population is given the vaccine and the other half a placebo, and 100 people out of the population are later hospitalized with COVID symptoms, and 90 of those hospitalized are from the placebo group, the vaccine is 90% effective.

The vaccine does not prevent infection or asymptomatic spreading. It does prevent disease at the individual level. Many locations use temperature checks and questionnaires to screen out people who are spreading virus loads (sneezing, touching surfaces, etc.)
