Alexandria Villaseñor, 14 years old climate advocate, makes an opening speech at the first meeting of UNICEF's Second Executive Board Regular Session.
Alexandria starts by refering to the call scientists made to act before the irriversible, catastrophic effects of climate change. "I want to tell you how frustrating it is to know that when I am an adult it will be too late".
"My message to you today is a message of urgency. We children, need you to urgently act on the climate crisis"
She also highlights that children are the most affected by climate change, more than adults and tells her personal story of how she was affected by last year's California wild fires. Since then, inspired by Greta Thunberg she has striking outside the UNHQs every friday. In march 15th, she helped to organize the first Global Climate Strike which mobilized 1.6 million students in over 150 countries.
"We children, won't stop until our futures are not longer at risk from the climate crisis".
She also mentions how children's rights are being violated as all children of the world should have the right to a stable climate system that supports their development and life.
"Today let us stand together and enforce the rights of the child in order to make a life sustaining vision of the future, our reality".
