Choose cards with abilities that make sense for other cards that you're seeing being played around you. Cards from more recent sets can sometimes be more efficient. For example, they may have more hit points or HP and they could require less energy to do your attack. Look for staple cards that could benefit your deck, such as Pokemon Catcher, Rare Candy, Pokemon Collector, or Professor Oak's New Theory. You will also want to look for cards that work well together or have synergy. At the world championship in 2011, Typhlosion, Reshiram and Ninetales were very popular as an engine. In the end, the best Pokemon cards to have are cards that best reflect your playing style and personality.
