Let's see if the rules are right for how to pick a watermelon. Because these are very different watermelons. One is bright light green with a HUGE white underbelly and very little webbing. The other one is very dark green, with almost no underbelly (small yellow spot) and a bit more webbing.
Turns out they're both GREAT! The dark green one was a bit sweeter, but the rind was woody and harder to cut. I first ate a TON of the light green one and thought it was great. Then the dark green one and noticed the texture was slightly firmer.
But when we each ate one bite of the light one and then one bite of the dark one it was *only then* obvious that the darker one was sweeter. Had I not tried them side by side I wouldn't be able to tell you which was better.
Side note: I buy a watermelon a week every week during watermelon season, so I've bought a TON of watermelon in the last 15-plus years :)
