Women Aren't Allowed at 24 Hour Fitness Basketball

As you guys know, I absolutely LOVE basketball. I didn't realize I loved this sport until I was 20 years old, but as soon as I first picked up a ball, it was as if I had always played. Somehow I was able to make all kinds of shots from all angles. What I didn't know were any of the positions or even what a layup was, so I asked people at the gym to help me. Then I joined the intramural team at my college where I felt very out of place because everyone else had been playing for years except myself. The more I played, the more I loved the game. I became obsessed and was at the gym 5 hours a day shooting hoops. I knew whoever I married had to be good at basketball. When I met Matt, that was one of the first things I asked him--Are you good at basketball? He took me to a professional basketball game for our first date :)
Now fast forward to how it's been at every gym I have ever tried to play a pickup game at....nobody wants the girls to play. I have gotten used to it, but it doesn't make it right. Even when I could play better than some of the guys on the court (I was in a lot better shape before having twins), I would still be last picked until people got to know me. Once the guys knew me, they'd always pick me, but being chosen last or even not at all, even over someone trying to run on a sprained ankle definitely hurt. I understand that many of you won't care about what I have to say in this video, but since this is my YouTube channel, I'm making videos that are important to me. This is my life and I want to document it. I want to show my kids that I was one good at basketball, even though I'm not nearly as good now as I was 10 years ago. I want my daughter not to be afraid to play a sport she loves, even though being excluded can be pretty discouraging. Had I stopped trying when I realized that hardly any women play basketball, it would have been quite a shame. I actually saved someone's life once on a basketball court.
