As schools prepare to formally mark the start the academic year at virtual or physically distant convocation ceremonies, President Sarah Mangelsdorf presents a University-wide convocation message that emphasizes the essential work of research universities and the role we all play in creating the “vibrant, diverse, respectful, and intellectually curious community that we want to be part of.”

For the health of our community—and to prevent further disruption to campus life and the important work being done here—Mangelsdorf urges everyone to take personal responsibility to reduce the spread of COVID-19 by following the University’s health and safety guidelines, and encouraging every member of the University community to do so as well. Most importantly, filling out the daily Dr. Chat Bot health screening, wearing your face mask, and maintaining physical distance.

“I believe that as a community, we will respond with resilience and optimism to the many changes that this year will bring,” Mangelsdorf says.
