On September 30, 2010, as a way of celebrating Harvard Divinity School's ongoing initiative in Latino/a religious studies, Davíd Carrasco sponsored an evening and creative encounter with the Chicana feminist poet, cultural theorist, and playwright Cherrié Moraga, also currently artist in residence at Stanford University. Her work offers new directions for women-of-color feminism and for queering the understanding of gender within a cultural context. Her collection of essays, A Xicana Codex of Changing Consciousness: A Decade of Discourse (forthcoming from Duke University Press) reflects on the question: How can this new demography of many colors and genders be cultivated in a new democracy?
