I've been wanting to do something of this sort - particularly relating to this song - for a whoooole while now, but I never knew how to package it and figured there wouldn't be much interested in it. Along comes one of my Twitter followers and, in a very thought-out tweet, requests the translation of German songs while paying special attention to idioms, slang and other things that you can't just run through a translator and be done with it and I'm like "oh yay". So I did a poll on Patreon and a vast majority of replies where enthusiastic about the idea, so here we go.
Short note on the translations: With translating, you always have to strike some sort of balance between being as literal and true to the original meaning as possible while still making your end-product sound like actual language and not a bad translation. This problem multiplies with anything lyrical, since the layers of meaning and precision of expression tend to be even more tricky than in prose - and that's not even accounting for the madness that ensues when you try to look out for things like rhythm and rhyme (so give Disney song translations some slack!). Because of this, and because of the intended purpose of this format, I have decided that when in doubt, I'll lean towards "more literal, less good English" than the other way around.
In general, no matter what detail it relates to, please let me know what you think about this and any criticism or praise you might have - this is still a work in progress that has a lot of room for being tuned to the community's wishes imho.

What you need to do to be my intro:
Record yourself saying the following things:
"Hallo Leute! Ich bin ___ (You can say whatever you want here - name, (youtube) nickname, where you live, where you're from, why you're learning German, or anything else you'd like, one or more things. It's best if you do this part in German, too, but if you're too shy, English is fine as well - just try to keep the video to roughly 10 seconds or shorter) und ihr seht Deutsch Für Euch!"
Please don't edit your videos; if you'd like something changed (e.g. color correction), let me know in your email. I'll make sure to make you look as good as possible anyway, though ;)
I can use a lot of video formats, but your safest bets are the usual candidates: .avi, .mov, .mp4 - DON'T use .dv, please. Once you're happy with your video, send it to me via ONE of these channels:
- attach the video to an email to [email protected]
- send me a DropBox link/invite me to a folder (also [email protected])
- send me a link to a the video on YouTube, also via mail
- please title your message "DFE Intro"
There's NO time limit for this, this will be an on-going thing as long as you send me videos. I'm looking forward to your submissions - feel free to get creative with it! :)
