Admonish

At some point of time in your life, your teacher or mother may have scolded you for doing something you shouldn't have. It could be due to an action which was not acceptable or approved of.

Admonish basically means, to scold or strongly warn someone. It means to let someone know that you are not happy with his or her actions, for example, you often scold children for their bad behavior, it means, you are admonishing them. When a college principal strictly warns his students due to their poor attendance, he is actually admonishing them.

Thus, when you admonish someone, you are actually telling them very seriously that they have done something wrong or you rare warning them very sternly.
Hence, it is a mild, but serious scolding.

As the word 'admonish' indicates an action of scolding or warning, it is a Verb
