Have you ever craved for something that is hard to get? Or had a desire for something that is beyond your reach at the moment? The word yearn basically means to have a strong desire or longing for something.
To yearn for something is to want it really bad. Usually you yearn for something or someone you can't get easily.
It also means to have deep affection for something.
When you have an intense feeling of loss or lack, or you care and treasure something, it means you yearn for it.
When you are away from home for many years, you yearn for your mother's love.
As the word yearn shows the action of a strong desire, it is a verb.
