Gdańsk (Poland) Vacation Travel Video Guide

Today Gdańsk is the Polish port metropolis on the Baltic Sea. About 1,000 years ago the history of the once German-speaking free city of Danzig began. In 1945 the city was extensively destroyed, but rebuilt according to historical plans, photos and drawings.

In the 14th century the town received a stone fortification with imposing gates. The massive Storey-Tower, the High Gate and the Golden Gate.

Pride and self-confidence were resoundingly expressed in the building of the Town Hall. The entry of the Polish kings into the city took place via the magnificent Long Market. Here the most distinguished houses line both long sides. This also applies to the so-called Artus-Court.

Gdańsk once became rich through Amber, the "gold of the Baltic Sea", but also as a commercial metropolis and hub of cultures.

The Teutonic Order finally brought the city under its control and in 1361 the membership in the Hanseatic League. At the end of the 14th century Gdańsk had grown to the largest and economically most successful town in the religious state, received city rights and became "City of Rights" - Główne Miasto.

Gdańsk has not only the Old Port on the Motława river, but also the biggest seaport in Poland.

Gdańsk is the "City of Freedom", a veritable treasury of bourgeois culture.
