You may be tired of your boring strawberry jam recipe. Using herbs and spices is a great way to kick it up a notch. In the case of lavender sugar, all you have to do is add a tablespoon of lavender to one cup of sugar. Throw them into your food processor and grind them until they're finely mixed. You'll have a great purpley sugar that adds a lot of complexity to your jam or preserve. Vanilla is a little easier than the other sugars. All you have to do is add a vanilla bean to three cups of sugar. Place it in a Tupperware in your cupboard and let it sit for about a week.
