How to perform the barbell hack squat. Barbell hack squat is an old school movement that you will rarely see used at the gym anymore but it's sure to blow up those thighs and build those massive, powerful quads we're going for. Let's talk about your set up now guys, keep the feet at shoulder width with your knees over your toes. It's going to be the same as a full range of motion dead lift but the bar is going to be behind your body. Grip the bar in a double overhand position with your arms like hooks, so your arms are completely straight but your grip and your forearms are working like crazy. Activate all of the muscles in your lats and your back, keep your chest up tall, and your chin down in a neutral position. Drive the weight off the ground, letting your quads do the majority of the work, with your hamstrings and glutes engaged as well, as you drive your hips forward. Keep the bar alongside your glutes, and hams, and calves on the way down, and keep it that way for the concentric and eccentric part of the motion. As you get stronger in this movement guys, you're sure to use the massive, powerful development in those quads.
