Sustainable Development
This morning, the Secretary-General held the inaugural meeting of the Global Investors for Sustainable Development Alliance, which was launched today. Some of you may have been here a little earlier for briefing by the Alliance co-chairs and the UN’s Chief Economist, Elliot Harris.
The Alliance is made up of 30 globally prominent CEOs and other leaders in the world of business and finance and will work with the Secretary-General on scaling up long-term financing and investment from the private sector towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
At the official launch which took place just a few minutes ago, Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed said the Alliance’s work can take concrete actions to increase the supply of resources available for investment in sustainable development, channeling capital to countries and sectors where it is most needed. The potential is enormous, she said and added that the demand for sustainable investment is growing.
