Universities compete for students but struggle to distinguish their offerings from others. Almost every educational institution agrees that the quality of education must be improved to attract new students. Some academics believe that the best way to improve the university offering is to increase teachers´ salaries. Others in academia feel that professors are paid enough and, to improve the quality of education, the money should be invested in improving facilities. I believe increasing the salary of professors is the best way to improve a quality of education because higher salaries will attract superior teachers and provide them with more time to focus on building dynamic courses.

If you want to improve your TOEFL writing score by 3 points you have to focus on your introduction paragraph. In both TOEFL writing tasks, but particularly for the second task, the independent TOEFL writing task, you want your introduction to be flawless.

Your essay will be graded by multiple graders and a computerized system. These graders are not only looking to see if you know enough grammar and vocabulary, but they are also wondering if you know how to organize an essay in the academic style.

Once you understand the independent TOEFL writing question and have thought of your outline, begin your essay with a general statement. After your general statement, you should begin to narrow the topic down and make it more specific. After you make it more specific, it's time to restate this question. These first three steps are crucial because they signal to the grader that you understand how to develop the topic.

For the TOEFL writing, you have to imagine that the grader has no idea what the question is, so it's important to start general and then make it more specific. When the TOEFL graders see that, it will bump up your writing score because you have left a good impression.

After you have made a general statement, narrowed it down to make it more specific and restated the question, it's time for you to give your opinion and two specific reasons for your opinion.

If you follow these steps, you will not only improve your TOEFL writing score by 3 points, but also know exactly how to start your TOEFL writing every time.
