Mahalo's Windows expert Sean Hewitt shows you an overview of Windows Media Center.
To access Windows Media Center, click on the
Start button at the bottom-left of the Taskbar. Click All Programs (first option), followed by Windows Media Center. Alternately, you may also type "Windows Media Player" into the search field above the Start button to access the program.
Windows Media Player is the first step into turning your PC into an entertainment platform. It is a self-contained program that allows you to navigate all of your media with you keyboard, mouse or remote. You can also extend Windows Media Player to other devices, such as an
Xbox. Additionally, it gives you the ability to record television on your PC. The only requirement is you have to have a TV Tuner Card in your PC. The card allows you to watch regular programming and the Windows Media Center can act as a DVR to record that content.
Navigating the media center is as easy as using the keyboard's arrow buttons to move up and down, left and right, Enter to select, and Backspace to go backwards. The difference between the media player and the media center is that the player is designed for a single individual to view all types of media on their computer. The media center, however, is a great way to share content with others. The media center presents your content in a more entertainment-centric style. You can view your pictures and videos and listen to music. You can also watch
Netflix movies and Internet TV and record live TV.
