Welcome back to Dakota and Shaun's Cooking Show (part 2)! Today we are going to show you how we make what we call "Apple Pie Rings" which is what everyone took with them to Everest Base Camp as a hiking snack. It's a fan favorite in our family so we wanted to share the recipe with y'all! COMMENT BELOW ???????? what we should cook next? ????

Ingredient List:
- 4 bags of Apples (your preference)
- 4-5 Limes
- 4 cups of Dark Brown Sugar
- 2 cups of White Sugar
- 6 tbsp Cinnamon
- 1 tbsp Flour
- 1/2 tspn Salt (optional)

Directions:
Start by rolling out the limes and squeezing the juice in a giant pot of water to create a "lime juice bath" this helps keep the apples fresh so they don't turn brown in the prep process. Next begin peeling, coring, and slicing your apples 1/4 inch thick (add them to the lime juice bath as you go). In a large mixing bowl add brown sugar, white sugar, cinnamon, flour, and salt. Mix well. Lay your apples out to let me dry slightly you can pat dry them but you'll want some moisture so the sugar mix stays on. Burry the apple fully in the mixture so it's coated on both sides and then lay it on your baking tray. Repeat!

You can use and oven or dehydrator at the same settings. I do the first 2 hours at 167°F to get the majority of the moisture out. After 2 hours I drop it to 145°F for the remaining 6-8 hours. Check periodically and flip the apples as needed based on your liking and apple thickness. We put 7 trays in the dehydrator but the one I have can hold up to 10! If you're using your oven I recommend using a tray of some sort underneath to catch any sugary mess that may happen in the oven...trust me on this! I also recommend making a smaller batch since ovens can only hold a few trays at once and it's a long process.

This is a labor of love but they are so worth it! It's a homemade snack that we all enjoy and it always becomes a fun family activity during the holiday season. ENJOY!
