The incredible story of the multi-decade battle to make better rice.
Rice is the primary source of calories for over half the global population. To meet the global challenge of feeding 10 billion people by 2050, rice production must grow by 50% compared with 2010 levels.
Spanning eight countries and more than fifteen institutions, the C4 Rice Project builds on decades of research by over twenty interdisciplinary teams working towards a shared vision of ensuring global food security. Its leader, Oxford professor Jane Langdale, joins colleagues from the Gates Foundation and the Australian National University to discuss the challenge.
