Combine your trick and your treat this Halloween with an activated charcoal candy-coated "poison" apple.
INGREDIENTS:
Nonstick spray
1 cup water
2 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup corn syrup
2 tablespoons edible activated charcoal
Black food coloring
6 to 8 apples
Sprinkles, for decorating (optional)
STEPS:
1.) Prepare a sheet tray with parchment paper and coat with nonstick spray.
2.) In a saucepan over medium-high heat, add water, sugar, corn syrup, charcoal and food coloring (if needed). Bring to a boil and simmer until sugar reaches hard-crack stage, 300 degrees.
3.) Insert a popsicle stick into each apple. When sugar is done, quickly dip each apple to coat. Decorate with sprinkles (optional), and place on prepared sheet tray to set.
