By hiking to the top of the Volcano, Stanford students learned, firsthand, how the geophysics of Vesuvius interact with the surrounding area. Best known for destroying Pompeii and Herculaneum, the volcano has erupted more than 50 times since AD 79 – most recently in 1944.
