Complete transcript:The impact of a reactive father
Have you ever noticed that Dad has anger problems? And then makes him our problem? What do you mean? Well, tonight he lashed out a few times, and you just got quiet, we all did. And then he started ranting about all of the things he does for everyone and how he's not appreciated. He always relies on you to calm him down or to tell him to stop. Your dad does do the best he can. He gets tired from work, and he's got a lot on his plate. But he loves you, we all have a lot on our plates and we can still express ourselves in healthy ways. When he gives you the silent treatment, I wonder why you put up with it. You're not responsible for regulating dad's emotions. Sometimes it feels like he's a kid having a tantrum, and you have to be his mother. Honey, you're thinking too much into this,s try ignoring him. It works he always gets over it. But it would also be nice if he took some accountability for the way he impacted you and his family. I don't see him apologize or put in effort to become a healthier version of himself. Loving someone means you love them enough to be a better person.
