Watch Artist in Residence Nabil Ali make ink from the bark of Newton’s Apple Tree in Cambridge University Botanic Garden.
The tree, which blew down in a storm in 2022, was grafted from the original apple tree in a Lincolnshire garden that is said to have inspired Sir Isaac Newton’s theory of gravity.
Nabil has named his ink Newton’s Gold. It will be part of a digital colour catalogue he’s creating from plants in the Garden for his project ‘DYE – nature, myth and climate’.
