Following the appointment of António Guterres by the UN General Assembly as the next Secretary-General, his predecessor Ban Ki-moon has hailed him as a "wonderful choice to steer this organization". The UN chief highlighted Mr Guterres's compassion, advice and service, especially during the past decade when he served as the UN High Commissioner for refugees, tackling the challenges "on the front lines of armed conflict and humanitarian suffering"
