United Nations continues to ramp-up its Ebola response

United Nations - Publication date: 15 October 2014 - More than 530 thousand people in the Ebola affected countries Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, are receiving food assistance from the UN World Food Programme WFP, the organization said on Wednesday. Other supplies that were brought to the area included water tanks and washing units.

The Ebola epidemic continues growing in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone. The World Health Organization warned that by December there will be ten thousand new cases per week in West Africa.
Anthony Banbury, head of the UN Mission for Ebola Emergency Response UNMEER, is worried that the international community is falling short in stopping the spread of the disease. 'Ebola got a head start on us' and it looks like the disease is winning the race, he told the Security Council on Tuesday:

UN Ambassador Marjon Kamara from Liberia explained the urgent situation her government faces:

Because if you cannot take in people who report the disease to you, you can do nothing."]]
35 Ebola survivors will meet in Kenema in Sierra Leone this week, UNICEF announced on Wednesday. The survivors will learn how to deal with trauma and stigmatisation.
According to the World Health Organization some nine thousand people are infected with Ebola and nearly 4500 people have died.
