I own two dance studios in Queens, New York. We're going to be learning a progression of salsa moves so we can actually go out, practice, take it to the clubs, take it to a party, and you can show off all the great moves you learned. What is Puerto Rican style salsa? Well, I would love to answer that for you Jorday. Well basically Puerto Rican style salsa, their basic looks very similar to the style that we dance in New York. Now, remember that connection between New York and Puerto Rico, the majority of our immigrant, our Latinos in this city for the longest time have been Puerto Rican. So their basic is very similar to ours, it's still forward and back. The only difference is they're dancing on a different timing. They're dancing on one very similar to what they did in Miami and what they did in L.A. The difference is that they are dancing on what's called the "tumbal", or the conga beats. So they're dancing on the "boom-boom-clack" "boom-boom-clack". So, it's very similar to the way we dance on two. Also, very dynamic and impactful. But they're not so conscientious of the timing as we are. But our roots are definitely, the New York style roots are definitely in Puerto Rico. And that's basically Puerto Rico style salsa.
