Delivered on May 26, 2007. Sandra Rosenthal is Provost Distinguished Professor of Philosophy at Loyola University in New Orleans. Her most recent book, C. I. Lewis in Focus: The Pulse of Pragmatism, is due out this spring. She is also the author of Speculative Pragmatism, Time, Continuity and Indeterminacy: A Pragmatic Engagement with Contemporary Perspectives (University of Massachusetts Press, 1986), and Charles Peirce's Pragmatic Pluralism (State University of New York Press, 1994). Rosenthal is a past president of the Society for the Advancement of American Philosophy.
