Delivered on May 26, 2007. John Lachs has written on the relevance of philosophy to life, including A Community of Individuals (Routlege, 2002) and In Love with Life (Vanderbilt University Press, 1998). Most recently, he published On Santayana (Thomson/Wadsworth, 2006). Lachs is Centennial Professor in the philosophy department at Vanderbilt University, and the current president of the William James Society.
