Facial exercises, that focus on contracting the muscles, making various facial expressions or sounds, can in some cases facilitate the formation of synkinesis. To understand why facial exercises may facilitate synkinesis, we need to understand that there are two separate centers in our brain that control facial expressions. In this video, Alex Pashov explains what those two systems are, what each of them is responsible for and which one is used during facial exercises. Alex also explains how this may result in synkinesis.
