Come join us for another food adventure in Tokyo, Japan as we eat spicy Korean barbecue Samgyeopsal (삼겹살) for lunch. Audrey and I had been craving Korean barbecue for ages and after trying some delicious Korean food in Osaka we jumped at the opportunity to eat samgyeopsal in Tokyo. We noticed this restaurant the day we ate at Shake Shack because after our meal we had to use the restroom located and on the second floor of the building.

For those who have never had Korean bbq Samgyeopsal (삼겹살) before it is directly translated as 'three layer flesh' or 'three layer meat pork' belly referring to the fat and lean meat layers.

Aside from just the Korean meat we also had kimchi and potatoes as grilled sides with two special dipping sauces. One dipping sauce was cheese and the other one was a spicy and sweet gochujang red pepper paste sauce.

Overall the meal was delicious, satisfying and reasonably priced so we would highly recommend this place if you're in Tokyo in the Shinjuku area.

Eating Spicy Korean Barbecue Samgyeopsal (삼겹살) | Tokyo, Japan Travel Food Video Transcript:

Good morning guys. As we walked by this Korean restaurant after eating Shake Shack we knew we had to come back here.

You know we have shown you guys a lot of bibimbap. Jiggae and Jeon. So today we're going to do some meat and cook it ourselves. And this place actually specializes in Korean barbecue. Especially Samgyeopsal (삼겹살). The porky one. That is the pork belly meat. It is on the first two pages of the menu and we have our eye on the spicy one which should have lots of gochujang sauce which I think you would call it the maeun samgyupsal.

Ah, this is with cheese. Potato. Samgyeopsal (삼겹살). With cheese. That is the one you dip in cheese. This is the other spicy one. Very hot. Sam is taking over the cooking here. So we are just flipping the meat. It is starting to get all golden.

We have a serious smoke trail happening in terms of the ingredients they threw on the grill

We've got so much going on. Okay so let's assembling so I can start eating. I've got my leaf in my hand. Yep. I'm going to add a little bit of the banchan. The side dishes.

We've got some different flavors. Beansprouts. Some onion. Grab a bit of that. And then we have two types of meat. There is a super spicy one. And then we have another one that is meant to be dipped in gooey cheese.

Which one should I go for? Why don't you try the spicy one first.

It is cooked in what appears to be a gochujang sauce. I asked the guy and he said it is even spicier. We'll take a bit of that and I'm going to grab some Kimchi that has been cooking on the grill as well.

We have just finished lunch. That was a lot of fun. I always think it is fun getting to cook your own meal at the table. And everything was just so tasty. If you are here in Tokyo and you're like I'm craving some Korean barbecue the name of this place is Hantejiya Hamamatsucho. Little piggy marks the entrance. Let's talk about price point.

So the total was 3,294 Yen which is right around $30 US dollars for two people. Lots of free banchan, free drinks. I think it was outstanding value to be honest.

I know like the meat portions don't look humongous or anything like that but you leave the restaurant feeling satisfied. Because there is enough side dishes. And like we were having this right in the heart of Shinjuku yes which is not a cheap area of Tokyo.

To have this good of Korean food here. A big win. We definitely recommend. I hope you guys enjoyed this video and we'll see you soon with more food and travel content. Bye!
