Ethiopian Food London - Mesi’s Kitchen
As you know we are always on the look out for new Ethiopian places to eat whenever we travel. This time we are in London, north London to be more accurate. A wet damp Monday night, not the best night to be out and about but boy was it worth it. Situated on the busy Holloway Rd of north London, in between two underground stations, so very handy if you are not driving, is Mesi’s Kitchen. I was a little early, in fact on time but my dinner partner was running late, so i stood at the bar area and ordered a coffee. Now the first thing i noticed was the warm friendly greeting i got, always a great sign. It turns out my happy faced greeter was Mesi, the owner. So i take off my wet coat and down a well needed Macchiato and take a look around. The place has a super clean lined bistro feel about it and i can see that a lot of thought has gone into making it feel warm and friendly. A mesob and chairs are set up at the front by the well stocked bar and coffee area, with the rest of the eatery set out with cosy tables. At the back of the restaurant is the open kitchen, i love this concept, it makes me feel they have nothing to hide and it is always good to see the chef doing their thing. My friend arrives, late and wet and we get straight over to a table. Mesi arrives again all smiles with menus in hand, a St Georges beer and a coke are ordered and we set to look at what is on offer. The menu is laid out well and is easily understood by both myself and my novice Ethiopian partner. Messi is on hand to advise and help with anything you may need to know. So we order Doro Wat, Gomen, Awaze Tibs, Shiro, Azifa, Tomato salad and Beets & Potato. The kitchen gets straight to work and as they do so in the background, i catch up on news of my friends day. Before we know it, Mesi is at the table with some lovely looking injera and starts to serve. Time to get stuck in. Our conversation goes from a fast chatty rate to silence within moments as we lap up this amazing food. Without going into detail, it was super and to add to this Mesi appears half way through with a sample of some lamb stew. “Try this” she says and without hesitation we do. AMAZING the whole lot. So all in with a few beers and a couple more cups of coffee the bill arrives in at 44 pounds ( about $67).
Conclusion - This super Ethiopian bistro in situated a stones throw from Arsenal football club ( Emirates Stadium ). Now Barcelona FC may well have the best football player in the world in Lionel Messi but north London also has its own super star Mesi. 10/10 all the way, you have to check this place out.
