Raw onions in a salad, they get a bad rap because they can be sharp or just too pungent. So this is how you mellow out the taste of raw onions. Prepare them as the recipe calls for and then take a pinch of kosher salt, throw it over the top. You let it sit like ten, fifteen minutes and then rinse it off or if they're big slices, just brush it off with a paper towel and it'll really help mellow the flavor out.
