UN Emergency Relief Coordinator, Stephen O'Brien, has made a strong case for the need to urgently aid over 10 million people in Africa's Lake Chad Basin, saying "it is an investment for all of us," while highlighting its implications for the broader global security. The remarks came ahead of a UN-led international conference for the Region, set to take place in Oslo, Norway, on 24 February. The Conference aims to seek funding support of $1.5 billion, in order to meet the urgent humanitarian needs of people affected by climatic events and the Boko Haram insurgency in the Region - mainly in Nigeria, Niger, Chad and Cameroon.
