Informal comments to the media by Mr. Majid Takht-Ravanchi , the Permanent Representative of Iran to the United Nations, on the situation in Iran.
----
Iranian Ambassador Majid Takht-Ravanchi today (24 Jun) said there was "no doubt" that the US drone shot down by Iranian forces "was flying over the Iranian territorial sea.”
Ravanchi said “several radio warnings” were disregarded and stressed “Iran’s action was in full conformity with international law.”
Additionally, he said, “on the same day another US spy aircraft with 35 people on board violated Iran’s airspace. However, Iranian armed forces exercised maximum restraint. And no action was taken against the invading aircraft.”
Regarding the attacks on oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, Ravanchi said, “how could Iran be benefitted from attacking tankers destined to Japan while simultaneously its Prime Minister in his historic visit to Iran was meeting with the highest Iranian officials. The claim could not be more absurd.”
The Iranian Ambassador said, “in order to deescalate the US should take steps in order to put aside their armada from our region, and also move away from economic warfare against the Iranian people.”
He said, nobody in a clear mind can accept to have a dialogue with somebody who is threatening you with more sanctions. So, that as long as this threat is there, there is no way that Iran and the US can start a dialogue.”
