Longer vs Shorter Duration Option Contracts #OptionsTrading

When choosing between longer or shorter duration option contracts, it depends on your strategy. Are you buying calls, selling iron condors, or buying vertical spreads? Each of these affects your decision.

Shorter durations come with more price risk since the price needs to move quickly in your favor or remain stable, as with iron condors. If you're a buyer, it's wise to give yourself more time for the position to develop, as time decay (theta) can work against you.

On the other hand, if you're a seller, you typically want shorter durations to benefit from time decay, but going too short can limit your range.
